Understanding and requesting data from the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC)
Presented on 02/12/24 by Meredith Cocks, Project Coordinator, NPIC.
Duration: 01:12:59
Target audience: State, Federal, and Tribal Agencies
Summary: NPIC answers pesticide questions from all 50 states and territories and manages a database spanning more than 25 years of inquiries. About 19% of callers report pesticide exposures, symptoms, misuse, spills, and/or environmental effects. We discuss how NPIC collects and categorizes this anonymous, self-reported data, as well as its strengths and limitations. We also discuss how EPA-affiliated state, federal, and tribal agencies can request data at no charge for their use in outreach and education, or to inform regulatory decisions.

    As a pest control tech, it is very annoying that I can't pour a pint of a chemical from a gallon jug made out of fluorinated HDPE plastic into a pint jug of fluorinated HDPE plastic. The fact that I can't do that means that I often have to carry a full gallon of pesticide around with me or a sprayer that's already mixed and full rather than simply mixing on site.

    The contradictions are frustrating. Is it safe? Only when used properly. Wrong. Is it unsafe? It has not been tested and therefore can not be recommended by the FDA. Should it be used to control different problems in people and pets? NO. Since it can cause damage to eyes and irritate skin and cause fatalities in both when inhaled, I can't understand why anyone would use it on their pets or for themselves. Even when extra cautious, accidents can happen. Why ask for trouble?

    An utterly useless video that explains less than nothing about the mechanism of action of the compound. But that's what academia has become in many places, particularly the Northwest, a worthless exercise in self-congratulatory empty institutional vacuity masquerading ever more unconvincingly as a citadel of knowledge.

      There are different types of wipes and they each have different ingredients. Flushable wipes and baby wipes may be designed for use on the skin and are different from disinfectant wipes. Disinfectant wipes are NOT for human skin and have chemicals that kill germs on surfaces, not the body. Wipes for makeup, cleaning, or babies have different ingredients than disinfectant wipes. The FDA has a webpage about different kinds of wipes and some information on what ingredients wipes may have: www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetic-products/disposable-wipes#wipe How do you know what kind of wipe you have? Check out our infographic about different kinds of wipes! npic.orst.edu/outreach/wipes-infographic.png If you have questions about the chemicals in disinfectant wipes, please call us at 800-858-7378, Monday-Friday, 8am-12pm PST.

    Get rid of all your bed bugs while you Sleep: GENTLY spread a VERY THIN, nearly invisible, dry coat of Food grade Diatomaceous earth on your mattress. You can use a soft paint brush to avoid making a dust cloud. Do not inhale the powder. Bed bugs will ignore a little dust and walk on it, but not thick piles of it. Top the bed with a portable Sansbug BUG TENT to sleep inside. Each night the hungry bed bugs will smell you and come for a drink of your blood. After walking across the powder on the bed, THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO GET INSIDE THE TENT TO BITE YOU. Later the DE clinging to their bodies will dry out their exoskeletons. They will shrivel up and die. They feed only on fresh blood from a live host. You are their food supply. They must travel to you. Apply the DE all around your body on the mattress, so they will walk through it. They will kill themselves while you sleep. Continue to sleep inside the tent at night for about a MONTH, long enough for all the bed bugs to die, including the NEW ONES that can hatch from BED BUG EGGS several weeks after the adults have died. Don't let those tiny nymphs grow into adults! Bed bugs normally like to feed about every 5 days if they haven't been disturbed by pesticides or other repellents. Do not remove your clothing, bedding, furniture from the bedroom or trap the bed bugs. All the bed bugs will eventually walk across the powder when they feel safe enough to leave their hiding places. THEY MUST HAVE BLOOD TO LIVE. YOU HAVE THAT FOOD SUPPLY. You are the bait that lures the bed bugs to walk onto the bed. The diatomaceous earth on the bed will kill them all. You don't have to do any work, just sleep inside the tent at night without getting any bed bug bites! Because they like to feed about every 5 days, most of them will attempt to feed that often so they can breed and reproduce. In a week most of them can be dead after they walk across the DE on your bed. Do not make visible thick piles of the DE. This can repel the bugs, so they may scatter and spread all over the home. Outsmart and trick the blood thirsty bed bugs into thinking it's okay to walk across a little bit of dusty DE on the mattress. If there are bed bugs in a sofa or easy chairs, they can be treated with the DE. I did not have this furniture. My bed bugs were nesting in the bedroom close to their food supply (me). I used this method only on the mattress to CLEAR THE ENTIRE INFESTATION. I didn't have a portable BUG TENT, so I got some bites for a few nights. I was inside a sleeping bag in the center of the bed. There was no bedding covering the circle of DE that the bugs had to walk across to get to me. In about a week all the bed bugs dried up and died after being exposed to the diatomaceous earth, then I didn't find any more bites. All the bed bugs were gone. I continued to sleep in the center of the DE for more than a month to make sure the ones hatching from eggs also died. AFTER YOU GET RID OF ALL YOUR BED BUGS, if you live in a heavily infested building or you have to work or play or travel in places with bed bugs, you might be able to keep them away by taking GARLIC daily. They will avoid you, leave, and go bite someone else. ua-cam.com/video/fHFfBtJL_3U/v-deo.html

      Pesticide labels will say where a product can be used, but may not necessarily say where it cannot be used. Mothballs are meant to kill clothing moths inside containers of stored clothing. The mothballs slowly give off a toxic gas to kill clothes moths and other insects. They are meant to be used in closed, airtight containers so that the fumes they give off are trapped. If mothballs are used out in the open, they can harm people, pets, or wildlife that may touch or eat the mothballs, or breathe their vapors. I’m including some links below for more information. Estas bolitas son unicamente para polillas o palomas de los cereales, frijoles semillas, se hacen gusanos y luego la mariposa de color cafe grisasea. O a veces se van a la ropa o al close.

      Gracias por tu comentario. Hay polillas de la despensa a las que les gustan los granos y polillas de la ropa a las que les gusta la ropa. Las bolas de naftalina no deben usarse en despensas o cerca de alimentos. Las bolas de naftalina pueden matar polillas solo si se usan correctamente en recipientes herméticos. Es importante seguir las instrucciones de las bolas de naftalina para asegurarse de no ponerse en riesgo. Si tiene preguntas sobre las bolas de naftalina, llámenos al 1-800-858-7378 (+1 541-737-6091 si llama desde fuera de los Estados Unidos), de lunes a viernes de 8:00 AM a 12:00 PM Hora del Pacífico para hablar directamente con u Especialista sobre Pesticidas.

    Can mothballs deter cats

    • @NPICatOSU
      @NPICatOSU Рік тому

      The label of any pesticide, including mothballs, states exactly where and how you can legally use the product. In general, mothballs are pesticides intended only for closed, airtight containers to kill clothes moths and other fabric pests. Mothballs are not animal repellents. The fumes they produce should remain trapped inside the container to kill the clothes moths. If mothballs are used in a way that allows the vapors to escape into occupied air, they can be harmful to people or pets that may breathe in the vapors. I have provided some links below for more information.
